Non-Combat Pet and Mount Changes

If you are anything like Alassiel, and to a certain extend myself, half you bank if filled with non-combat (or vanity) pets. They there is your mounts, I only carry two but I know some carry several more for variety purposes. All of this adds up and, if on top of that, you are a Warlock or Hunter and have a whole bag slot taken up by arrows or soul shards or even a druid with 5 sets of gear (yes I’m talking about you Skyer) then every spare slot counts. Blizzard have decided to help you out, starting in Wrath of the Litch King non-combat pets and mounts will count as spells and subsequently not take up space in your bag or bank. Better yet it means in a single instance you could cycle through every one of you 50 different “favourites”. To make this work each non-combat pet or mount will actually be an item which you consume to learn the spell. Hopefully you will get an extra tab in your spell book to accommodate all of these new spells or the general tab could become very cluttered.

Midsummer Fire Festival

Tomorrow heralds the beginning of the Midsummer Fire Festival. This event is intended to celebrate the hottest month of the year (based on the northern hemisphere). There have been some great changes this year including new items to purchase with your burning blossoms and quests (including some daily ones) to get your hands on the blossoms. In addition there will be a summonable boss, similar to the Headless Horseman, who will drop epic loot. The level of difficulty has increased with Ahune, the Frost Lord residing in the Slave Pens as opposed to the somewhat easy Scarlet Monastery.

One particular item the Frost Lord drops, Frostscythe of Lord Ahune, is on Squiggle's must have list. Sure it’s not the greatest shadow priest weapon but it looks awesome. I shouldn't forget he also drops a non combat pet. The festival will run for about two weeks so we can expect a lot of people “LFG Heroic Slave Pens”. Also keep your eyes out for the Brazier of Dancing Flames, at a pricey 350 blossoms there wont be a lot of this unique and fun item.

Wotlk Frost Wyrm Whelpling

Some pictures of a cute little frozen undead looking whelpling have been floating around the internet that I assume were leaked during the Wrath of the Lich King alpha testing. Frost Wyrms were a unit in Warcraft 3, they are undead dragons raised from dragon graveyards in Northrend where dragons went to die. It is speculated that this whelpling will be the pet included in the collectors edition of WotLK.

A lot of people, collect non combat pets. Alassiel has a huge number of them, bringing out different one for every group and instance. She has spent a fair amount of time attempting to increase her collection as well. Blizzard have put a lot of things, such as non combat pets, into the game to make it fun and give players all sorts of different things to do. While collecting non combat pets is unlikely to be the pastime of a hard core end game raider it is something that can provide a sense of achievement to a player who can only log on for a few hours a week.
